The General Education Research Institute of
Sookmyung Women’s University was established for the purpose of sharing key
topics and research trends within the field of general education and
strengthening the research capacity of the field of humanities and social
science. Despite that general education has rapidly grown in importance in
today’s world, it is being pushed aside by major fields of study. Even in the
academic domain, general education remains marginalized.
With the establishment of a future-oriented
education platform, I hope that our institute can provide practical education
on communication, as required by the 4th industrial society.
Through our efforts, I hope to see the
reinforcement and enhancement of university general education spread to a
larger spectrum of relevant fields. I ask for your undivided attention and
encouragement for our institute as well as for the field of general education.
Our institution publishes “General Education and
the Citizen” on a half-yearly basis. Hosting a number of academic conferences
regarding general education is also part of our activities.

general education, through the means of research and publishing activities.
